Why Your Fur Baby Belongs in Your Maternity and Newborn Photos
Rhubee (dog) waiting on her human sibling to be born
At Asukkar Photography, our philosophy is "The Art of Seeing and Preserving" your authentic family story—and that story is never complete without the four-legged members. Whether they are gently guarding the crib or sniffing your pregnant belly, your pets are the Original Family Members and their anticipation for the new baby is a profound, beautiful chapter that deserves to be documented.
The Unscripted Magic of the Fur Sibling
Your pet's role is unique. They don't just pose; they feel. Their interactions with the new baby—or the bump—are always genuine and completely unscripted. This aligns perfectly with our lifestyle approach:
Anticipation and Connection: We capture the quiet moments: the family dog resting his head on the growing bump, the cat curled up in the freshly prepared bassinet, or the loyal companion sitting patiently by the nursery door. These images document the whole family's waiting game.
The Home as a Haven: Since we shoot in the comfort of your home, your pets are in their most relaxed and authentic environment. They are more likely to display their true personality—whether it's the gentle guardian or the curious nose—when they feel safe.
Visual Legacy: These photos become irreplaceable testaments to the transition. Years from now, these images will show your child who was there from the very beginning, cementing the pet’s role as a sibling and protector.
How to Successfully Include Your Pet (Our Quick Prep Guide)
We believe that preparation removes stress, ensuring the session remains calm, comfortable, and focused on genuine moments, not chaos.
Prioritize Their Comfort: Schedule your session for a time when your pet is typically calm or sleepy. We can start the session by capturing moments with the pet, allowing them to relax or nap afterward while we focus on other family portraits.
Reward, Reward, Reward: Keep high-value treats and favorite toys nearby, out of sight. We use these rewards to encourage them to stay near the family and build positive associations with the camera's presence.
Appoint a Handler: If possible, ask a partner, family member, or friend to be the primary "pet handler." This person's sole job is to keep the pet happy, safe, and ready for their cue. This frees the parents up to focus on the intimate family moments.
Keep it Brief: We focus on short, sweet bursts of interaction. Once we get the perfect, authentic moment—like the dog resting near the crib or the baby—we let them go back to resting.
Your fur sibling is not a prop; they are a vital, loving character in your story. Let's make sure their unique excitement and unwavering loyalty are preserved forever.
